Practical skills for study, work and adult life
Education gives you
the foundation.
Outbacked helps you build what comes next.
Outbacked teaches the real-world skills young Australians are too often left to figure out alone.
Through practical programs in money, work, life and business, we bridge the gap between education and the world beyond it, bringing students lessons from industry leaders, experienced professionals and people who have walked the walk.
It is the education teachers wish they had more time to teach, and students wish they had learned sooner.

Our mission
Give young Australians a genuine head start on study, work and adult life.
It starts with the fundamentals. Money, work, business and professional life, taught properly and taught early, so nobody has to work out the hard way what a payslip means or how a business actually runs.
It doesn't end there. Practical education compounds: the young Australians who get this grounding early are better placed to build the careers, businesses and communities the country will rely on for decades to come.
Every strong career starts with someone given a proper foundation early. That's what Outbacked exists to provide.
The gap
Most young people leave school and university well prepared to sit an exam.
Far fewer leave knowing how to read a payslip, build a budget that survives the month, write a CV that gets opened, or make a confident start on a business idea of their own.
None of that is a soft skill. It's the basic operating manual for early adult life, and the gap between those who learn it early and those who don't tends to widen, not close, over time.
Outbacked closes that gap with structured, practical programs, delivered by people who have done the work they teach.
Our programs
The launch suite centres on four core modules, each built around practical outcomes a young person can use straight away.
Financial Literacy
The money manual before the first real payslip.
A straight, no-nonsense look at what actually happens to your money once you start earning it. Participants learn to read a payslip properly, understand super, protect their TFN, build a budget that survives the month, lodge a simple tax return, get their head around HECS/HELP, and spot the traps (BNPL, betting apps, dodgy 'investment' DMs) before they cost real money.
What participants learn
- Superannuation and compound growth
- TFNs, payslips and employment types
- Casual, part-time and full-time work
- Budgeting, banking and saving
- Tax returns and myTax
- HECS/HELP
- BNPL, credit cards, scams and betting apps
- Renting and insurance basics
What they leave with
- Annotated payslip exercise
- Super and TFN checklists
- Budget and savings worksheet
- Tax return checklist
- Financial traps awareness card
- 7-day and 30-day action plan
This module is general education, not personal financial advice. Figures and rules are checked before every delivery, and content is reviewed where required. Participants are shown how to compare their own options using official tools, not which products to choose.
Entrepreneur Mentorship
From idea thinking to operator thinking.
For young people who want to understand how a business actually works, not just admire the people who run them. Mentor-led, and built around real work: value chains, basic P&L, operations, what people actually cost to employ, and how to talk about an idea without sounding like a pitch deck.
What participants learn
- How businesses create, deliver and capture value
- Margin, revenue, costs and basic P&L thinking
- Value chains and operations
- Wages, people costs and scaling pressure
- Communication, pitching and business language
- Practical next steps for building experience
What they leave with
- Business Anatomy Map
- Basic P&L model
- Opportunity plan
- Pitch and Q&A practice
Careers & Employability
Turn experience into evidence.
For students and young alumni about to start applying for internships, part-time work, grad roles or casual jobs. We build a CV that actually says something, a cover letter that doesn't sound copied and pasted, and the confidence to back both up in an interview.
What participants learn
- CV structure for early-career applicants
- Translating school, sport and volunteering into employability language
- Achievement statements and quantified outcomes
- Cover letter structure
- SEEK, Indeed, LinkedIn and university careers portals
- Interview confidence and preparation
What they leave with
- Draft CV
- Reusable cover letter structure
- Job-search platform guide
- Interview practice framework
Digital Presence & Networking
Be findable for the right reasons.
Most young people have an online presence they've never actually looked at properly, and a LinkedIn profile that's really just their CV with a photo attached. We sort out both, then cover how to message someone you don't know without it being awkward, and how to follow up without disappearing.
What participants learn
- Digital footprint audit
- Social media privacy and cleanup
- Professional vs personal accounts
- LinkedIn profile basics
- Outreach messages and informational interviews
- Follow-up etiquette and event networking
What they leave with
- Digital footprint checklist
- LinkedIn profile checklist
- Outreach and follow-up templates
- Contact management framework
What participants leave with
Built around practical outputs.
Outbacked programs are designed backwards from the outcome. Every module begins with what a participant should be able to do by the end of the session, then builds the content to get them there. Examples across the program suite include:

Why Outbacked is different
Not a guest speaker. Not a one-off event.
Delivered by practitioners
Every facilitator has built a business, managed a budget or built a career of their own. Real experience, not theory delivered from a slide deck.
Built to be used
Every module ends with something real: a CV, a business map, a budget, a LinkedIn profile or an action plan participants can use that week.
Trusted networks
Programs are delivered through schools, alumni associations and professional networks, communities young people already know and trust.
Genuinely Australian
Built around the Australian tax system, superannuation, the job market and the pathways young Australians actually face, not adapted from a US or UK program.
Nothing improvised
Structured playbooks, briefed facilitators and reviewed materials. What turns up on the day is what was promised, every time.
Where Outbacked fits
The question is no longer whether young people need these skills. It's who will teach them before they need them.
- Practical outputs, not passive talks
- Operator-led delivery
- Built for the Australian context
- Materials reviewed where required
- Designed to complement existing programs, not replace them
For schools
Practical modules that complement existing careers, wellbeing and transition programs.
